‘Dia De Los Muertos’

Hello Defiend Designers!

Last week was full of Halloween festivities. I thought now would be the best time to talk about a much celebrated holiday in Mexico “Dia De Los Muertos’ and how it has inspired me personally.

October 31st marked the first day of festivities in Mexico in celebration of  “Day of the dead”. This celebration fascinates me. With this celebration comes amazing art and creativity all of which is created in celebration of those who have passed on. During this celebration it is believed that the spirits of the deceased pay a visit to their families. In preparation of this an altar is made in their honor filled with “offerings” such as pictures of the deceased, favorite things, and foods.

Why am I talking about this you ask? Out of this celebration comes amazing artwork. Take a look at some of these great pieces:

How have these pieces inspired me? Well my husband and I share a love of this art. We have quite a few pieces that we have collected. We also decided this theme would be a great addition to our wedding décor and a great way to show our personality!

Take a look at how we incorporated “Dia De Los Muertos “ into our wedding day:

Cake Topper- ‘Love Never Dies’

Custom Candy Boxes with ‘Dia De Los Muertos’ Art Print

Skull Cameo Necklace- Bridesmaids gift custom made to match my wedding colors!

Hair piece inspired by cameo necklace flower- very similar to the flowers seen in the artwork above

Hair By Michelle Lopez (my lil’ sister)- She also took her inspiration from the cameo necklace and recreated the look in her own way for each bridesmaid.

Here are some more pieces that we have collected on our trips to Mexico:

I find art like this can really bring personality into a space.

Hope you enjoyed defined designers!
